Kevin and Pat Williams: To Play or Not to Play for the Vikings
Judd Zulgad of Star Tribune reported that the Vikings have been waiting for the result whether Kevin Williams and Pat Williams will still receive a suspension. To recall, the Pro-Bowl defensive tackles made their appeal last Nov. 20 in New York about their four-game suspensions after they tested positive for a prohibited substance, diuretic.
According to Fox’s Jay Glazer report, the suspension can already be finalized within few days. Now, if they will not receive any suspension after a few days more, the two Williams may no longer be imposed with suspensions since there are only four regular-season games left and the NFL is presumed to apply any possible action to this season.
The report also said that if the league will pursue the suspension of these two players, things may already appear ugly. Currently, seven players now are suspended for the same reason, which involves the product “StarCaps“.
“Sources have told me that [the players possibly facing suspensions] have information that at least two high-ranking NFL members knew that there was an illegal substance called bumetanide in these StarCap pills and didn’t tell the players and didn’t tell the NFL players association,” Glazer stated in its report. It also mentioned that “if the players are still found guilty, they are going to file a temporary restraining order in another jurisdiction. They’ll also file suit not just against the supplement StarCaps manufacturer but against the National Football League and to the people who withheld this information.”
Meanwhile, Coach Brad Childress refused to give out more comment about the impending result for the two Williams according to the report of Rick Alonzo in the Twincities.com.
“I wouldn’t know,” Childress uttered. ‘I don’t have any timetables that have been advertised to me.” Fox Sports also reported that in case the suspension will be continually held, the two Williams will still move to obstruct the penalties by taking a legal action; similar to what was reported by Glazer.
The report also claimed that once the Williams Wall gone in the field, Vikings might experience a crushing blow for the whole team that has already achieved a 34-14 victory over their game with Chicago. In fact, it was also reported that the triumph moved the Vikings to be the sole one to possess the first place in the NFC North.
The Detroit coach Rod Marinelli also said that he is currently preparing his team for the game against the Vikings, assuming that the two Williams can be on the field. “I’m assuming they are until I’m told differently,” Coach Marinelli stated. “I’m assuming they’re in there, and they’re two big, really talented defensive tackles. That’s as good as tandem as there is in the league,” he added.
In addition, Kevin Williams also mentioned that he is following the plans to play the game with Detroit unless their suspension will be pursued. Antoine Winfield, Vikings cornerback, also mentioned that he is not considering about the chances of losing his two teammates. “That’s something those guys have to deal with,” Winfield said. “If the decision comes down, then, we will deal with it.”
