Witch Hunt Inquiry on Steroids Use in WWE Grilled McMahon

witch hunt inquiry on steroids use in WWE In a three hour-long inquiry, government investigators have grilled World Wrestling Entertainment Chairman Vince McMahon on the use of steroids in their industry. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, through Senior Investigative Counsel David Leviss asked repeatedly for the wrestling icon’s opinion on the medical and pharmacological information on anabolic steroids.

It had even reached a point that McMahon was being set up for perjury as he was questioned as to his personal use of anabolic steroids and human growth hormones. In a futile attempt, reference was made to McMahon’s previous case for conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids in 1993. McMahon’s lawyer Jerry McDevitt as to the circumstances of that particular case promptly corrected the investigator. Leviss was saying McMahon admitted to steroid abuse to which McDevitt corrected him on record as to the inaccuracy of his facts. As a last ditch effort, even the perception of steroid use was put forth in questioning. To this McDevitt quashed the obvious witch-hunt because he was the expect on the matter.

In the said 1992 trial, McDevitt exposed the hypocrisy of the government’s stand by allowing steroid manufacture but prosecute those who use it. Even supporters of the program were clearly embarrassed by the inappropriate line of questioning conducted by the Committee. Personal use of steroids, to the mind of the minority representative of the Committee is outside the purview of the governmental inquiry. This lead to argumentation between the counsels for the government as to the proper screening of the questions for the witness. Congressional staff members argued about the vetting of the questions before the list was sent out and showed the keystone cops attitude of the committee members themselves.

From there, McMahon’s counsel continued to say that the matter is a witch-hunt as the Chairman of the Committee has already prejudged the matter. To this McDevitt said that he was not going along with that line of thought and the reason for the inquiry is to write a report of findings. To this McMahon said that he refused to part of a charade to provide meat on an otherwise bag of worthless bones. He then laments the attacks made by Waxman on his legitimate company and all the negative press and comments has served nothing to the claimed wellness program being espoused by the government. He said that the prejudgment, even without a shred of testimony, was being perpetuated in the inquiry and the report would serve only to support the prejudgment instead of finding the truth.

This prediction on the negative press media made a minion of the government in its aim to rid anabolic steroid abuse in sports and entertainment like professional wrestling. This is compounded by the sheer ignorance of the Committee Chair and his staff as to the anabolic steroids themselves. The transcripts would belie the fact that the witch-hunt is aimed to bag perceived steroid use under the guise of the federal government’s wellness program.  Clearly this is not in aid of legislation but in aid of re- election.
