Former WWE Superstar The Rock Also Tried Steroids
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, former defensive lineman, a pro wrestler, and now an actor, admits that he also tried using steroids when he was still a young athlete. In an interview with MTV News, Johnson admitted that he and his buddies tried it when they were 18 or 19 but also said that they still don’t know what they were doing that time. Although, he did not elaborate what particular steroids or performance enhancing drugs they have taken during that time.
The Rock started his career as a defensive lineman for the University of Miami Hurricanes. He was part of the team when the school wins the 1991 National Championship. He also has a short stint with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League. Johnson changed his career when he was given an opportunity to be in the pro wrestling. The Rock as popularly known in the wrestling world is considered as one of its biggest stars. He made great achievement in the World Wrestling Entertainment. Some of his great fights were with Steve Stone Cold Austin, XPAC and others.
As an actor, Johnson started to be noticed in the movie “The Scorpion King” and right now he is again into another major role in “Race to Witch Mountain“. In this movie, his role is a taxi driver chauffeuring two alien children.
During the interview with MTV, Johnson shares his views on the current scandals and issues on using steroids in the professional sports. Although he said that steroids are not as widespread in sports as they were a decade ago. “A-Rod is an example of a lot of guys — and women, for that matter — of that era in all athletics,” Johnson said. He believes that it was the culture that made these players engaged in performance enhancing drugs. Johnson said, “But we have to recognize that a culture was created where it was OK to do that, and a lot of team managers, owners, players who didn’t do it would turn the other cheek. We recognize that, and now we have to institute stronger penalties, which we are doing.”
To end this steroid era, Johnson believes that its through education that we can solve this problem. He also focused on educating the young so that they will be able to avoid using performance enhancing drugs just to get to stardom. “I also believe in education,” he said. “It’s a bad example that you set for kids, and at the same time it’s a good example for kids to follow, not in terms of the use, but in terms of the repercussions of what can happen because there is no replacement for hard work.”
A stronger penalty imposed by sports organization will also help curtail this problem according to Johnson.
