MMA Fighter Sidelnikov Got Suspended For Failed Steroid Test
Another MMA player was caught using a banned substance on his debut fight in “Affliction: Day of Reckoning” event held last January 24 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has suspended and fined Kirill Sidelnikov,a member of the Russian Red Devil team.
Kirill Sidelnikov, also known as “Baby Fedor”, was beaten by Paul Buentello who is more experienced in the ring. The 20-year-old Russian went blow-for-blow with Buentello but was floored by a barrage of strikes in the final period. John McCarthy, the referee in the fight prompted to call in a ringside physician to check on Sidelnikov and causing to end the fight in the third round. The fight was stopped due to facial cut. Analysts says that the fight of Sidelnikov against “The Headhunter” Buentello is a mismatch since the former is significantly out of shape.
His suspension for a year is another blow to the career of the number one M-1 fighter. He was tested positive for synthetic anabolic steroid Stanozolol. The test was conducted by the CSAC after the fight. The ban will end on January 18, 2010. It also include a fine of $2,500.
CSAC Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas said that the mere presence of Stanozolol in the body of a fighter constitutes a violation under the new testing procedures for CSAC California State Athletic Commission. Although Sidelnikov can reapply for a license after the ban.
What makes Stanozolol a banned drug in sports competition? Although this is approved by FDA for human use but it is banned in most sports organization. This is commonly sold under the name Winstrol (oral) and Winstrol Depot (intra-muscular), was developed by Winthrop Laboratories in 1962. It is a synthetic anabolic steroid derived from testosterone and usually used as ergogenic aid by athletes.
Unlike most injectable anabolic steroids, Stanozolol is not esterified and is sold as an aqueous suspension, or in oral tablet form. The drug has a large oral bioavailability, due to a C17 a-alkylation which allows the hormone to survive first pass liver metabolism when ingested. It is because of this that Stanozolol is also sold in tablet form.
Stanozolol is usually considered a safer choice for female bodybuilders in that it rewards a great amount of anabolism for a small androgenic effect, however virilization and masculinization are still very common, even at low doses.
Stanozolol has been used on both animal and human patients for a number of conditions. In humans, it has been demonstrated to be successful in treating anaemia and hereditary angioedema. Veterinarians may prescribe the drug to improve muscle growth, red blood cell production, increase bone density and stimulate the appetite of debilitated or weakened animals.
