Italian cyclist Dario Frigo 1 year supension of sentence wants to be lifted by prosecutor A former professional cyclist, Dario Frigo who was born on September 18, 1973 in Saronna, Italy was sentenced for a year for doping case. Although it was suspended. His luck in his career turned bad in 2005 when he and his wife were caught in possession of performance enhancing drugs. Currently, a French prosecutor is begging for a one-year suspension on jail sentence for the famous Italian cyclist after his name was dragged in relation to a doping case which happened during the 2005 Tour de France. The court confirmed that the judge assigned in his case is expected to pass sentence on April 23. But until now, there is no indication on whether Frigo will be given any consideration for his plea.

During the race, Frigo and his wife Susanna were arrested after police found 10 doses of the banned endurance boosting hormone EPO from their car. In September 2008, the couple got suspended sentences of six months after the conviction on drug charges. The court also imposed an additional fine of almost 9,000 euros on them as a couple.

According to reports, Frigo could have made it to 77th place during the race, but instead he found himself being questioned after the performance enhancing drugs were obtained from his wife’s car who was also arrested according to the reports. His team never denied the issue back then, and they even confirmed that the gendarmes had arrested Frigo and had held him for questioning. However, the team further declared that it was Frigo’s personal case and that the team was not involved in the issue.

At the time, he was the second rider involved in a drug-related incident although it was not his first time to be involved with doping issues.

Doping is banned in sports because it puts the life of each player at risk. In the long run, players who had been taking performance enhancing drugs will most likely experience the side-effects of these substances which can also lead to their death. As much as possible, the sports world does not wish this thing to happen and sports officials and organizations wish to save the life of the players.

There is no telling when the world of sports will finally be free from doping. But one thing is for sure, and that is the fact that sports officials are exhausting all possible means to be able to eradicate the problem. Through time, they have been developing measures for more efficient ways in catching players that are into doping. Additionally, they have been investigating other means to come up with scientific tools that will allow them to detect doping incidents better.

It is hoped that soon enough, doping will be finally eradicated from the sports events, especially once the players realize that taking illegal drugs can take away their precious careers away from them. Because of this, it is a must for each player to manage their career properly. It is important that players do not give in to the temptation of taking drugs just for the sake of winning.
