Steroids Tests in WWE: The Pros and Cons

Published by SteroidSources.com at 6:55 pm under Steroids in Sports

We all know that steroid use is not only controversial in baseball and football but also in professional wrestling. Wrestlers in the World wrestling Entertainment are also reported using steroids even during the “Attitude Era”, that was during the 80’s and 90’s. Until now, WWE is still into hot seat on how they would address this problem.

During the time of Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior, steroid issue was already being thrown into this sport. However, it was not considered as a big issue. What is important that time is the satisfaction of fans from the sport.

When Vince McMahon instituted drug testing policy, a number of wrestlers returned positive results for performance enhancing drugs specially steroids. Some of the big stars of professional wrestling includes the names of Randy Orton, Edge, John Morrison, Mr. Kennedy, and Booker T.

Other wrestlers who died because of drugs and steroids were Eddie Guerrero, Mr. Perfect, and Chris Benoit. They may have different stories but one way or another, their deaths was attributed to excessive use of steroids and other prescription drugs.

Records of former professional wrestler Brian “Crush” Adams showed in his autopsy report a mix of prescription drugs, a pain reliever, muscle relaxer and anxiety medication. Ex-wrestler Scott Charles “Bam Bam” Bigelow cause of death is due to multiple drugs. Many wrestling deaths cite coronary problems, which can be linked to steroid abuse.

The latest casualty in the pro wrestling is Andrew “Test Martin who died a few days ago in his home in Harbour Island. Based on the reports, police officers found prescription drugs as well as steroids.

According to Kevin Canny of Prowrestling.com, deaths would be far more prevalent throughout the wrestling world, causing complete chaos and potentially running McMahon and the WWE out of business if there is no drug testing in place . Some of these wrestlers may have died sooner without this tests.

These test may only be considered by others as a cons because of the increasing number of professional wrestlers who are tested positive for performance enhancing drug. It will put the sport into bad limelight again.

Wade Keller of Pwtorch.com also shares his opinion on steroid use in pro wrestling. “Other wrestling fans see steroid use as a personal choice, ignoring the argument that any system that rewards a self-destructive behavior ought to be scrutinized no matter how “personal” any choice is.”

Steroids will be a part of wrestling for all of the foreseeable future. Wrestlers will continue to rationalize “smart use”; fans will defer responsibility to promoters and worry about their lives, not the problems that steroid-using wrestlers might face years down the line; and promoters will continue to play damage control and do only what is necessary to prevent public relations disasters from occurring,” Wade Keller added.
