Canseco, Clemens Steroid Probe Continues

Published by SteroidSources.com at 11:54 pm under Baseball and Steroids

Longtime associate of Jose canseco and Roger Clemens asked by federal investigators on Clemens case A longtime associate of Jose Canseco and Roger Clemens was questioned by the Federal agents as the Justice Department furthers its investigation whether Clemens lied when he testified under oath in front of the congressional committee that he never used performance-enhancing drugs. The agents interviewed Glenn Dunn on three occasions in the span of two months. He is a friend of Clemens since the 1990s and also Canseco’s Coral Park High School baseball coach. Meanwhile, the Justice Department opened an investigation in late February of last year in order to determine if Clemens committed perjury at a hearing on February 13, 2008 on the Mitchell Report. It was former Sen. George Mitchell who investigated the drug and performance-enhancing drug use in the Major League Baseball. A grand jury is believed to have been convened to consider whether to indict Clemens.

In an interview by the Daily News to Dunn at his home near West Palm Beach and by phone, he said that he was interviewed by agents and “asked me to verify certain things.” One of the subjects that the agents asked was about the infamous barbecue at Canseco’s Miami home during the ’98 season. This is the time when Canseco and Clemens were teammates at Blue Jays and Brian McNamee, the Rocket’s former trainer and his chief accuser in the Mitchell Report, was in his first year as the team’s conditioning coach. It was said to be the ’98 Canseco party held on Jun 9 that is considered as one of the pivotal elements during the Congressional hearing. McNamee testified that he saw Clemens and Canseco talking with another man at the party and he believed the Rocket may have scored steroids there. McNamee also said that when Jays returned to Toronto and from their Florida road trip early in June, Clemens approached him with steroids and asked him to inject him with them. Clemens on the other hand, vehemently denied being present at the Canseco party but later admitted that he might have stopped by on his way to the Blue Jay’s game with the Florida Marlins that night.

Dunn was at the party too but he told the agents questioning him that he did not believe that Clemens was actually in the party. Dunn told that News that “they asked me to verify things about the party.” “I told them he was not there. I know he wasn’t there and I remember Jose was a little hurt by Roger not being able to come.” On the contrary, other witnesses placed Clemens at the party. Agents already have in possession a photograph of Clemens with a young neighbor who also attended. Also, Lily Strain, the former nanny of the Clemens, told Congress that she saw Clemens at Canseco’s house that day. Another present at the party told The News that he vividly remembered seeing Clemens coming into the house with Canseco during the party.

Dunn also does not believe that Canseco has ever received money from Clemens in exchange for signing an affidavit submitted to Congress before the February hearing. The said affidavit said the Canseco had never seen Clemens “use, possess, or ask for steroids or human growth hormone” and that Clemens was not at the ’98 party.

  2. [...] Jose Canseco, one of the most notorious figures in baseball reveals his thoughts on the steroids era and fellow baseball players in a radio interview at WEEI in Boston. In the interview, Canseco believes that baseball players today would be smart enough to stay away from steroids and other performance enhancing drugs and to realize that the steroids era is over. He thinks that that the game should be clean because the risk versus the reward is not worth it right now. Canseco also thinks that the numbers of players who use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs have gone down because even if a chemical is not detectable with the current testing technologies, there will always be a paper trail, and one way or another, a player’s name can be leaked out by the people who are supplying the drugs in any way, shape or form.
