Canseco Believes Players Should Be Smart Enough to Realize Steroid Era is Over

Published by SteroidSources.com at 8:10 pm under Baseball and Steroids

In an interview, Jose Canseco said that Steroid Era in baseball is already over Jose Canseco, one of the most notorious figures in baseball reveals his thoughts on the steroids era and fellow baseball players in a radio interview at WEEI in Boston. In the interview, Canseco believes that baseball players today would be smart enough to stay away from steroids and other performance enhancing drugs and to realize that the steroids era is over. He thinks that that the game should be clean because the risk versus the reward is not worth it right now. Canseco also thinks that the numbers of players who use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs have gone down because even if a chemical is not detectable with the current testing technologies, there will always be a paper trail, and one way or another, a player’s name can be leaked out by the people who are supplying the drugs in any way, shape or form.

Canseco was also asked to comment on David Ortiz’s slump. He said that he has been out of the game for seven or eight years and it is impossible for him to tell if the slump is a temporal or permanent thing. Canseco said he met Ortiz a long time ago when Ortiz was still with the Minnesota Twins and even then he knew that Ortiz was not an average player. He even told Ortiz that he has a lot of power and incredibly quick hands. Ortiz told Jose that he believes he does have good playing capability but the Minnesota Twins has not given him a chance to play everyday. When Ortiz transferred to the Boston Red Sox, he finally had the chance to play everyday and show his full ability and talent. However, in recent times, Ortiz is not putting out and is failing to make any impressive hits, leading to talk about his past.

Rumors about ‘Big Papi’ have been going around that his slump may be due to his having ceased using steroids or performance enhancing drugs. His statistical profile for his entire baseball career does seem erratic where he started out as a fairly respectable player but became one of the most dynamic hitters in baseball history in a short five-year period. Canseco says that he does not know with Ortiz because he has never had any communication with him but it is possible that he might just be having an off year. He did not mention anything about any possible steroid use in the past.

When asked about why Manny Ramirez got caught, Canseco said that it was obviously because he tested positive for some illegal substance and because the Major League Baseball is involved in damage control. To Canseco, MLB is the mafia that has control of everything that goes public and what is kept from the media. Because Major League Baseball is in control of what is going on, it is not clear exactly what Manny got caught for. The only thing that has been established is that Ramirez got caught for something, supposedly a substance that is used to shed off the presence of steroids in the system, but whether he was actually using steroids or just a chemical, the MLB will not clearly state.
